What we do at EDGE
Scottish EDGE is a funding competition aimed at identifying and supporting Scotland’s innovative, high growth potential entrepreneurial talent.
Funded by the Hunter Foundation, the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and private donors, the competition is delivered twice per year and has supported 569 early-stage Scottish businesses with over £25m in award funding.
Scottish EDGE consists of four competition categories: Scottish EDGE, Social Enterprise EDGE, Young EDGE and Wild Card EDGE, and four special awards within the Scottish EDGE category for a net zero-focused business (Net Zero EDGE), a circular-focused business (Circular Economy EDGE), a commercial product-based business (STV Growth EDGE), and a food and drink business (Food and Drink EDGE).

Our Funders:
How we are funded?
Previously run by Scottish Enterprise for four rounds, the competition was spun out in Autumn 2014 to the private sector led Scottish EDGE C.I.C. funded by the Hunter Foundation, the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and private donors.
The total value of grant and loan funding secured by Scottish EDGE since 2013 is £17m. EDGE has distributed over £25m in grants and loans across 569 awards (over 90% has been drawn down).
Our Judges:
The judging panel contributes 162 days (equivalent to c. 1,300 hours) every round to assess applications, business plans and video pitches.
Throughout the Scottish EDGE journey our assessors are representatives of the Scottish EDGE team, partner organisations: The Royal Bank of Scotland, Business Gateway, Scottish Enterprise/Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Hunter Foundation and Social Investment Scotland, as well as external business experts, entrepreneurs, and investors from across Scotland. We also have previous Scottish EDGE winners on our panel of assessors.
A different panel will be used at the different stages of the competition, i.e. if you progress to the live pitching semi-final stage, the panel you will pitch to will be different from the panel who assessed your application at the 1st Stage Assessments.
Our Partners:
Scottish EDGE is proud to offer expert support from our partner network of leading organisations.
Packages of support vary in each round. What remains consistent, however, is that every winner and finalist has access to free, or generously discounted, support.
Each package is exclusively tailored to suit the needs of start-up businesses in Scotland, and combined offer all-encompassing support across key industries, such as; accounting, insurance, legal and creative. The organisations we currently partner with are; Royal Bank of Scotland, Harper Macleod, Johnston Carmichael, Eden Scott, Marks & Clerk, James Hallam, i4 Product Design Ltd, ABB People, Entrepreneurial Scotland, AAI EmployAbility, M3 Networks, Strategic Scientific Consulting Ltd and The Doctor is In.
